PCAI is pleased to announce that Eva Giannakopoulou is the selected artist for Tandem 5 – Bridging the Gap.
Through an intensive four-day workshop programme focused on the presentation of the five shortlisted artists of Bridging the Gap Open Call, launched earlier this year, the partners of the project had the opportunity to delve into the Greek contemporary performing arts scene and exchange their opinions on the five finalist artists. The workshop that took place at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus was enriched by a number of keynote presentations, roundtables by established members of the theater and performing arts community in Greece, as well as onsite visits and cultural tours in Piraeus and Athens.
In the context of Stronger Peripheries: A Southern Coalition project, Eva Giannakopoulou will be given the opportunity to create a new production in tandem with PCAI (Greece), ARTEMREDE/Torres Vedras (Portugal) and L’arboreto – Teatro Dimora (Italy). The final result will be the outcome of a series of two research and two creative residency programmes in Piraeus, Torres Vedras and Mondaino. The artist will work and collaborate closely with the local communities that will be engaged throughout the process. The new creation will premiere in January 2023, in Piraeus (Greece).
About Stronger Peripheries
Stronger Peripheries is a large cooperation project co-funded by the Creative Europe Culture Programme, gathering eleven arts’ management organizations and three research institutions from ten Southern-European countries. It is the first project to be implemented by the Southern Coalition, an informal network that connects locally anchored cultural practices in a European South, aiming at overcoming isolation and boosting the skills of artists, cultural professionals, and audiences. Stronger Peripheries questions and discusses the notions of “south” and “peripheries” from a socio-political and socio-cultural point of view, providing an opportunity to renegotiate our identities through culture and the empowering confluence of cultural difference.
