PCAI TILOS ARTIST RESIDENCY FILM: HYPERCOMF BY ILIAS MADOUROS

IN THE 12TH CHANIA FILM FESTIVAL

PCAI is glad to announce that the film PCAI Tilos Artist Residency: Hypercomf directed by Ilias Madouros, has been officially selected for the 12th Chania Film Festival (CFF), running between 16-26 October in Chania, Crete. The film unfolds PCAI’s artist-in-residence programme on the island of Tilos. How can circular economy principles inspire creativity, collaboration and regenerative thinking in architecture, design crafts, materials and urban design? The film aims to explore this question following Hypercomf’s multifaceted art practices in Tilos during their three-month residency on the island. PCAI Artist Residency programme was launched in 2022, as part of the Just Go Zero Tilos project powered by Polygreen, implemented in collaboration with the Municipality of Tilos. While the project intended Tilos to become the first zero waste island in the world, the PCAI’s artist-in-residence program explored possible environmental solutions using contemporary art and design as vehicles, in collaboration with the local community and with absolute respect for the history and cultural heritage of Tilos.

Ilias Madouros is an Athens-based director and filmmaker. After pursuing studies in film and photography in Berlin and Athens, he originally experimented with the documentary idiom by producing a number of makeshift works before moving toward a filmic approach influenced by visual art and the abstract lineages of cinema. His work delves into the notion of time, the breadth of culture(s) across multiple scales, the imprint of people and their acts within a particular social setting and historical period, all while maintaining a sustained focus on the extended Mediterranean region and its manifold worlds. His latest endeavor is a documentary that traces the lives of the frontier communities populating the borderline of Greece and Albania in the region of Epirus. As a freelance filmmaker, he undertakes commissioned work for the Greek National Opera, PCAI, DOMa, VICE Media and other private initiatives.
