PCAI supports Marina’s Velisioti new film Archaeology of an Invisible Island.
Discordia* is an island that emerged within the triangle formed by three sacred mountains, located between Italy and Greece.
The video Archaeology of an Invisible Island is the first part of the project Discordia: The Floating Island of Eris. It is a work of documentary-fiction, shot on film in Sicily, with a duration of approximately 8 minutes. It consists of a collage of footage—featuring archaeological sites, landscapes, and everyday objects—accompanied by a voiceover that weaves together oral history, mythology, and anthropological research. The work treats the film frame as an excavation site, constructing a play of visual evidence from a civilization that never existed.
The first phase of filming took place in Catania, Syracuse, Naxos, and other locations in eastern Sicily. The research for the first part begins there, where the principal filming also took place, focusing on the raw textures of the volcanic landscape, the layers of local cultural memory, the unique materiality of Mediterranean light, and the archaeological monuments.
The video will be presented in March 2027, alongside an installation.

*The island never existed, as far as anyone knows. The research is not over yet.
