PCAI is pleased to announce PCAI collection artists Latent Community participation at the group exhibition collapse: data.models.worlds. curated by Katerina Gkoutziouli and Daphne Dragona.
The exhibition addresses the intensifying state of crisis shaping the contemporary world, examining the role of technology within it.
On view from March 5 to April 2, 2026, at Saigon, Athens.
Bringing together ten artists and collectives based in Athens and abroad, collapse: data.models.worlds. explores how technology—and in particular the increasing deployment of artificial intelligence—promises solutions that are inextricably linked to mechanisms of exploitation of human and natural resources. Popular computational models process vast volumes of data that rely on invisible human labor, high energy consumption, and the extraction of raw materials. Geopolitical claims and shifts in land use are closely tied to the demands of technological development, often perpetuating colonial strategies of the past. At the same time, algorithmically generated images and news contribute to a state of ambiguity and uncertainty. Today’s persistent technological, social, and environmental problems are not isolated; they are interconnected and recurrent. Terms such as polycrisis, permacrisis, and meta-crisis, which have gained prominence in recent years, reflect the difficulty of managing interrelated challenges, as well as their persistence and escalation.
For the exhibition Latent Community present the artwork Dark Source: Cloud Extraction. Cloud Extraction marks the first iteration of the Dark Source, an ongoing critical research project on extractivism, unfolding as a poetic video essay that examines the unseen connections between mineral extraction and data mining. The research takes place in the lignite villages of Western Macedonia, focusing on the social and economical impacts of the lignite extractive practices, the desertification of the region and their long-term consequences on the land scape and local communities.
Latent Community is an art duo based in Athens, composed of visual artists Sotiris Tsiganos and Ionian Bisai. Their interdisciplinary practice spans moving image, sound, photography, and textile, addressing questions of social, political, and ecological justice. Their films often explore topics of memory, trauma, and community identity, examining the ethics of representation and the politics of collaboration. Informed by Mediterranean contexts, their work draws on fieldwork, participatory methods, and performative sequences to render overlooked histories, amplify counter-narratives, and examine vulnerable ecosystems.
Their work has been presented internationally, including the 23rd Biennale of Sydney: Rīvus (2022); IN A BRIGHT GREEN FIELD organized by the New Museum (NY) and the DESTE Foundation (2025); VOIR LA MER at Le Maif Social Club, Paris (2025); How we remember tomorrow at UQ Art Museum, Brisbane (2024); Caravan at Kunsthal Aarhus, Denmark (2023); Thinking with Alexandria at MUCEM, Marseille (2023); documenta 14 – Public Programs (2017); Sharjah Film Platform (2019); Recontemporary, Turin (2019); Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (2020); and Grand Central Art Center, California. They have received awards from LOOP Barcelona, the Sharjah Art Foundation, the ARTWORKS–SNF Artist Fellowship Program, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI) at Columbia University, and their practice has been supported through residencies at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, ONASSIS AiR, the Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto and Bozar Centre for Fine Arts.
